Staten Island, N.Y. – Junior Kaitlyn Adams of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's track & field team placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run at the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday.

Adams was the lone competitor for Stevens at the meet. With no team scoring at the event, she competed against athletes from Lehigh, St. Lawrence, Oneonta, Muhlenberg, TCNJ, and other programs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Seeded eighth entering the race, Adams maintained her position through the opening 3,600 meters before moving up two spots into sixth. She remained there until the final 200 meters, when she surged past Lehigh's Brenna Dahlgren to secure fifth place with a time of 18:36.36. Dahlgren followed closely in sixth at 18:40.85.
