Bronx, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team suffered its first setback of the season, falling 6-1 to New York University on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NYU claimed the doubles point by winning all three matches. First and third doubles was close, as Stevens fell by identical 7-5 margins. The duo of
Renat Kramin and
Max-William Kanz fell 7-5 at the No. 1 flight, but had jumped out to a 5-1 advantage.
Elias Alkio and
Tristan Wroe did the same, leading 5-1 before NYU stormed back at the No. 3 flight to win 7-5. At No. 2
Samvid Andhare and
Dhaivik Chenemilla were upended 6-3.
Andhare was the lone winner for Stevens, earning a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory at the No. 2 flight, as Alkio went to tie-breaking third frame at No. 5. Alkio fell 6-3 in the first but rebounded with a 6-3 triumph in the second. The first-year fell 10-8 in the tiebreaker, as NYU came back from trailing 8-1.
Kanz was topped 7-5, 6-1 at the top of the lineup, with Chenemilla dropping a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 3. Wroe and
Johnny Haase battled at No. 4 and No. 6, but were unable to find a victory.
