Bayonne, N.J. – The No. 35 Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team extended its winning streak to nine with a 7-0 triumph over New Paltz on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks (13-1) claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three flights.
Gigi Arenas and
Stephanie Untermeyer dominated at the No. 2 spot, blanking their opponents 6-0.
Alix Dry and
Kaylee Hobbick secured a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Wei-Wei Lai and
Lorena Piegas teamed up at the top spot but were edged 6-3.
Stevens controlled singles play, sweeping all six flights. Arenas was strong at the No. 5 position, earning a 6-1, 6-2 win, while Dry (No. 1) and Lai (No. 4) posted identical 6-3, 6-2 victories. Piegas added a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2, and Untermeyer battled to a 7-5, 6-4 decision. Hobbick needed three sets at No. 6, taking the first set 6-4 before dropping the second 6-1, then rebounding to win the deciding frame and clinch the sweep for Stevens.
