Glenside, Pa. – Matthew Pergola set another program record and the No. 9 Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team tied another in a 28-4 win over Arcadia Saturday afternoon in MAC Freedom action.
Already the program's career goals leader, Pergola finished with nine points surging into first place on the program's all-time points list, finishing the day with 308.
In addition to Pergola, a baker's dozen more players scored for Stevens (12-2, 5-0), who fell two shy of the program record for goals and shots on goal in a game, while their 24-goal margin of victory tied the single-game record.
How It Happened
Ryan Jack and
Adam DeCristofaro had the only two goals for the Ducks in the first 7+ minutes, but
Joe Leone, Pergola (twice), and
Will Labartino all scored less than 2:30 apart, putting Stevens up 6-1 at the 4:51 mark. Two points shy of sole possession of the program record, Pergola tied the record with a goal at the 2:37 mark, then moved atop the list with his fourth of the day with 30 ticks left in the period.
Pergola added another assist on Labartino's second goal of the day less than a minute into the second, with DeCristofaro putting the Ducks up 10-1 at the 13:41 mark. Arcadia got a goal back as Stevens went scoreless more than seven minutes but quickly heated up once again. Pergola sandwiched another pair around a goal apiece from
Jackson Penn and DeCristofaro as the Ducks took a 14-2 lead to the locker room.
The third quarter was perhaps Stevens' most dominant of the day as the Ducks outshot the Knights 24-3, finishing with a 7-0 advantage on the scoreboard.
Chris Ciccarello,
Jack Tenaglia (twice), DeCristofaro, Pergola,
Kevin Burns, and Penn put the Ducks up 21-2 going to the fourth.
Hudson Rocheville put the Ducks up 20 with a goal less than a minute into the fourth and
James Carey IV made it 23-2 less than a minute later. After Arcadia snapped a 30+ minute scoring drought,
