Bayonne, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team topped DeSales 4-0 Tuesday afternoon in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Semifinals.
The Ducks won their ninth straight conference tournament match dating back to the 2021-22 season and 41
st straight conference match (regular season and conference tournament) over that same time frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The top-seeded Ducks dominated the fourth-seeded Bulldogs from the opening doubles points to the final singles points.
Alix Dry and
Kaylee Hobbick bageled their Bulldogs counterparts at No. 3, winning 6-0, with the team point clinched at No. 2 after
Gigi Arenas and
Stephanie Untermeyer won 6-1; in the unfinished match at No. 1,
Lorena Piegas and Wei Wei Lai were leading 5-0.
Hobbick and Arenas made quick work of their singles matches at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, both winning 6-0, 6-0. With Stevens (15-2) needing just one more point to clinch the match,
Stephanie Untermeyer provided the Ducks just that, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
Waiting in the wings behind Untermeyer was No. 1 Dry – ahead in her match 6-1, 1-0 --, No. 2 Piegas – ahead in her match 6-2, 2-0--, and No. 4 Lai – ahead in her match 6-1, 3-0.
UP NEXT
The Ducks will host No. 2 Lebanon Valley (who defeated No. 3 Misericordia 4-0 in the other semifinal) in the MAC Freedom championship on Saturday, exact time and location to-be-determined, seeking a fifth straight conference crown.
