Baseball Drops MAC Freedom Semifinal Opener To DeSales, 15-13, in 13 Innings

Center Valley, Pa. – The No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team fell in the first game of their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Semifinal series with No. 1 DeSales on Friday, 15-13, in 13 innings.

How It Happened
The fireworks started early, with the Ducks putting three on the board in the first and the Bulldogs coming back with four in the second.  Chip Krese singled and Adam Barrington doubled to start things for the Ducks. After Griffin Zitko walked to load the bases, Garret Wolf singled in Krese, Quinton Sterling plated Barrington with a fielder's choice, and Jackson Wein knocked in Zitko with a sacrifice fly.

After the two sides traded a run apiece in the third with the Bulldogs adding on another for a 6-4 lead heading to the fifth where Barrington and Zitko got things started with back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Wein walked to load the bases for Vinnie Stigliano, who tied the game with a single to center. Next up stepped Veer Wadhwani, who put the Ducks up 8-6 with a double to deep center.

Stevens (27-14) tacked on three more in the sixth (two coming on RBI singles from Sterling and Stigliano) and another in the seventh, but the Bulldogs got a run back in the bottom of the inning, then tied things up with a five-run, two-out rally in the eighth.

As the game went into extra innings, Adam Kobayashi led off the 10th with a home run, but the Bulldogs tied things up yet again in the bottom of the inning on a two-out wild pitch.

In the bottom of the 13th, the Bulldogs walked it off on a two-run homer, ending the 4+ hour marathon.
