Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's golf team wrapped up its season on Wednesday at the NCAA Division III Championship hosted at Mission Inn & Resort Club.
The Ducks finished 38th overall through 36 holes, posting a two-round score of +53. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps held the team lead at -5, while Emory, Carnegie Mellon, and Methodist were tied for second at -2. Individually, Alan Van Asch of University of Lynchburg, Ryan Dunn of Oglethorpe University, and Arnold He were tied atop the leaderboard at -5.
Stevens qualified for the NCAA Championship after capturing its sixth consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom title last month. First-year
Jack Harris claimed the individual conference crown by 12 strokes and earned both MAC Freedom Rookie and Player of the Year honors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harris led the Ducks over the two-day event, improving by six shots from his opening round to finish at +12 overall. The rookie opened his second round with a birdie on the par-four first and made the turn at +2 after closing the front nine with four consecutive pars. Following a bogey on the 11th, Harris settled in and played the remainder of the round cleanly, carding a one-over 37 on the back side.
Arav Tank finished one stroke behind Harris at +13 overall, tying for 165th place. Tank recorded six pars on the front nine and played steadily down the stretch, posting four consecutive pars from holes 14 through 17 to close with a second-round 79.
Ben Slicker and
Sebastian Beaver each finished at +14 for the championship. Slicker highlighted his round with back-to-back birdies on holes five and six and stood at +3 through the opening nine holes. He added six pars on the back nine. Beaver totaled nine pars during his round as the junior battled through difficult scoring conditions.
Noah Eide rounded out the Stevens lineup at +19 overall after shooting +10 on Wednesday. Eide's strongest stretch came late in the round, where he played even-par golf over holes 14 through 18, including a birdie on the par-four 17th.
