HOBOKEN, N.J. - Freshman midfielder Chris Barsky (Council Rock, Pa./Council Rock) scored with 3:43 left in the second period of sudden death overtime to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 1-0 win over Montclair State University in the ECAC Division III Metro Soccer Championship on Sunday at DeBaun Field.

Stevens, which outscored its opponents 16-0 in three tournament games, finishes its season with a 17-4-2 record. The 17 wins are a school record, shattering the previous mark of 12 set in 1987, 1993 and 2001. The ECAC Metro Championship is the first for Stevens in three appearances. It was also the first ECAC Championship for Stevens in any sports. Montclair State, which entered the tournament as the seventh seed, finishes 12-7-2.

"I was proud of the way we bounced back after losing to Kings Point in the conference championship,” said second-year head coach Tim O’Donohue. “The boys never quit and came out with something to prove in this tournament. Winning the ECAC Championship is a good step for the program to help us get where we want to be."

Barsky took a pass from freshman Drew DePalma (Stockholm, N.J./Pope John) in the middle of the field, turned toward the goal and fired a shot from 35 yards over the outstretched arms of Montclair State goalkeeper Chris Owen at 106:17.

Both teams had scoring opportunities in regulation. Montclair State hit the post twice in the 21st minute. Freshman Mike Hogan headed a corner kick off the left post and senior Atiba Yusuf hit a shot off the right post less than a minute later. Stevens also threatened in the second half, but Owen denied sophomore Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and senior Giuseppe Incitti (River Edge, N.J./Bergen Catholic) from close range.

Stevens held a 17-7 advantage in shots, including 14-3 after the first half. Owen stopped seven shots for Montclair State while junior Sean Stevenson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) made two saves for Stevens.

Incitti, who scored six goals in the tournament, was selected Most Valuable Player.
