POMONA, N.J. - The Stevens men's soccer team remained undefeated with a come-from-behind 2-1 road victory over Richard Stockton in the Stockton Seashore Classic Tournament. The victory improved the Ducks to 3-0-0 on the year. Richard Stockton, who captured the 2001 NCAA Division III national championship last season, fell to 2-2-0 overall.
"Obviously this is a big victory for our program," Stevens second-year head coach Tim O'Donohue said. "I'm proud of the way my team hung in there and battled throughout the match. We'll enjoy this win for a couple of minutes, but we know we still have a lot of work ahead of us in order to achieve what we want to accomplish."
After a scoreless first half, the Ospreys struck first when sophomore midfielder Tom Ferron (Ringewood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) pooched a chip shot over Stevens junior keeper Sean Stevenson (Scottsdale, AZ/Brophy College Prep) for a 1-0 Stockton lead in the 54th minute.
The Ducks answered in the 63rd minute when freshman forward Brian Marks (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) knocked in a touch pass from sophomore forward Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) for the 1-1 equalizer.
Stevens freshman midfielder Collin Clatonoff (Phoenix, AZ/Dessert Vista) picked a dramatic time for his first collegiate goal as his 72nd minute netter set up by sophomore midfielder Ricardo Diaz (New Milford, NJ/New Milford) proved to be the 2-1 game-winner.
Stevenson registered five saves in the victory including the squelching of two excellent Stockton scoring chances in the closing minutes.
The Ducks return to action on Wednesday, September 11 when they travel to Union, NJ to face nationally ranked Kean.
