PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Sean Scola scored 25 points to lead St. Joseph’s-Patchogue to an 85-77 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday in a Skyline Conference men’s basketball game at the Danzi Athletic Center.

Stevens received 22 points from senior guard Jon Almonte (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and a season-high 20 points from freshman guard Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J./Peddie School).

St. Joseph’s earned its second straight win, improving to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.  Stevens remains winless at 0-10 and 0-4.

The Golden Eagles held a 44-40 lead at halftime, but Stevens scored the first two baskets of the second half.  A 3-pointer by freshman guard Ryan Lynch (Medford, N.J./St. Joseph’s Prep) gave the Ducks a 45-44 lead with 19:16 remaining.  St. Joseph’s countered by scoring the next seven points after a timeout.  Junior guard Ryan Schneider had a 3-point play with guards Tim Trava and Damon Moore contributing two points each.  Moore’s two free throws with 17:09 left gave the Golden Eagles a 51-45 lead.  St. Joseph’s never trailed the rest of the way.

Stevens pulled to within 65-64 on a fast break layup by freshman guard Ryan Kander (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Xaverian) with 8:16 left.  But Scola answered with a conventional 3-point play and Schneider added a short jumper to push the lead back up to six.

A 3-pointer by Kander cut the St. Joseph’s lead to 72-70 at the 5:18 mark, but Stevens went scoreless for the next three minutes as the Golden Eagles scored four straight points to secure the lead.

Stevens returns to action on Sunday, January 12, when it faces Haverford College in a 4 p.m. game at the Canavan Arena.  The game is a makeup game from a contest that was postponed due to snow on December 12.
