Stanley Scores 1,000th Career Point as Men's Basketball Falls to Kings Point, 87-72

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Senior forward Eric Stanley (New York, N.Y./Solebury Prep) scored a game-high 23 points, including the 1,000th of his career, but the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team dropped an 87-72 decision to USMMA-Kings Point in a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday at Liebertz Gymnasium.

Kings Point improves to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in Skyline play.  Stevens falls to 0-12 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

The Mariners, who held a slim 42-37 lead at halftime, never trailed in the game.  Kings Point held a 14-point lead with 6:08 left in the first half before Stevens responded with an 11-0 run over the next three minutes to pull within 34-31.  The teams traded baskets as the Mariners increased their lead to five points at the break.

Kings Point opened the second half with a 7-1 run to open up an 11-point lead.  Stevens got within six points with 12:34 remaining, but could get no closer.  For the game, the Mariners shot 46.6 percent from the floor (27-for-58) and made seven 3-pointers.

Needing 14 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau, Stanley achieved the milestone with 11:56 left in the second half when he hit the front end of two free throws.  He also added a game-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

Senior forward Jon Almonte (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) added 17 points for the Ducks.  Sophomore forward Dan Jordan (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) scored a season-high 10 points in his first start of the year.

Kings Point was led by sophomore guard Josh Buck who had 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.  Sophomore Joe Hart had 14 points while junior Mark Medvetz and freshman Paul Tricarico added 12 points each.

Stevens returns to action on Thursday, January 16, when it travels to the Bronx, N.Y., for a 7 p.m. game against New York Maritime.
