HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore forward Brian Marks (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) scored three second half goals as 16th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit for a 4-2 win over Richard Stockton College on Wednesday night in a men’s soccer match at DeBaun Field.
Stevens (8-1-2), ranked 16th in the latest NSCAA Division III poll, erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with two goals in the first five minutes of the second half. Freshman back Nick Gkionis (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) tapped in a short cross from sophomore Collin Clatanoff (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) at the 47:04 mark to tie the game at 1-1.
Marks gave Stevens the lead for good, 2-1, when he headed in a rebound of a shot by junior Adam Kalbermatten (Allentown, N.J./Central Catholic) at 49:15.
Marks scored a pair of unassisted goals in the final 10 minutes as the Ducks extended their lead to 4-1. He made a long run from midfield, eluded a Stockton defender and chipped a shot over goalkeeper Sean Dallas at 80:21. Marks completed the hat trick at 86:48 when he took a long cross from Kalbermatten on the left wing, dribbled in, maneuvered past a defender and scored from eight yards out on the right flank.
Richard Stockton (7-5-2) grabbed the initial lead as Sean Cooney scored from close range off a cross from Sean Geary at 18:04. The Ospreys added a goal in the second half as A.J. DeSarno headed in a corner kick off the foot of Lou Vaz at 89:05. It was the first time in that Stevens has given up more than one goal in a game this season.
Stevens held a 16-10 advantage in shots, including 10-5 in the second half. Senior Sean Stevenson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) stopped four shots for the Ducks while Dallas made eight saves for the Ospreys.
Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, October 8, with a 3:30 p.m. game at FDU-Florham.
