HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Stevens Institute of Technology erased a one-goal halftime deficit with four goals in the second half en route to a 4-2 win over Centenary College on Saturday in a Skyline Conference women’s soccer match at Cyclone Field.
With the win, Stevens secured the top seed and home-field advantage for the four-team Skyline Conference Tournament. Stevens improves to 11-6-1 overall and 5-0 in Skyline play. Centenary, which will be the second seed in the tournament, falls to 11-6 and 5-1 in the conference.
Stevens was forced to come from behind as Centenary received an unassisted goal from Shawna Scholtz at the 14:25 mark and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Ducks pulled even at 53:43 as junior Kim Mirra (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) scored off a direct kick. Freshman Heather Dean (Renton, Wash./Charles A. Lindbergh) put Stevens ahead 2-1 when she beat a defender and scored on a shot to the upper right corner at 67:55.
Freshman Megan Legendre (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon Township) scored the eventual game-winning goal at 72:39 as junior Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) and sophomore Coralynn Jones (Stevensville, Mont./Stevensville) were credited with assists. Centenary answered back just 1:54 later as Jess Sikora scored off an assist from Michele Barone at 74:33.
Stevens sealed the win when sophomore Jaime Mehnert (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) scored her sixth goal of the season in the 90th minute.
Freshman Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) stopped three shots in net for Stevens. Michelle Burke had five saves for Centenary.
