BRONX, N.Y. – Senior guard Aracely Cruz (Union City, N.J./Union Hill) scored 19 points and sophomore forward Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Villa Academy) scored 18 points as Stevens Institute of Technology earned a 58-38 win over Lehman College on Wednesday in a non-conference women’s basketball game.
Leading 23-18 at halftime, Stevens (2-3) overcame a sluggish first half to earn its second straight win. Lehman falls to 0-6.
Stevens never trailed in the game despite shooting just 29.7 percent in the first half. The Ducks put the game away quickly in the second half as they scored the first 24 points, turning a 23-18 halftime advantage into a commanding 47-18 margin. Junior forward Jaime Mehnert (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) scored seven of her nine points during the decisive surge. She also pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds for Stevens. Cruz and Gambino pulled down seven rebounds apiece.
Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, December 10, when it hosts Vassar College in a 7 p.m. game at the Canavan Arena.
