BRONX, N.Y. – Freshman center fielder Tim Meehan (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 6-5 win over Lehman College in the Knickerbocker Conference opener for both teams.
Stevens improves to 2-6 overall. Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, the teams played just one game as the start was delayed by poor field conditions.
Stevens jumped out to a 6-0 lead, scoring all of its runs in the first three innings. Meehan drove in the first run with a run-scoring ground-rule double in the first inning. The Ducks took advantage of a pair of Lehman errors in scoring four runs in the second inning. Meehan added an RBI single.
Lehman chipped away at the lead and scored four runs in the fifth inning to pull within 6-5. Stevens senior right-hander Jason Edelman (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park) went five innings to earn the win for the Ducks. Sophomore right-hander Joe Martin (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) pitched the final two innings to earn his first save.
Senior catcher Marlin Genao (Paterson, N.J./Paterson) also added two hits for Stevens.
The Ducks return to action on Sunday, March 22, when they play a Knickerbocker Conference doubleheader at St. Joseph’s-Patchogue.
