Men's Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten in Knickerbocker Play with 13-6 Win Over Richard Stockton

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team used a quick start and a strong defensive effort in beating Richard Stockton College 13-6 in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game on Wednesday night at DeBaun Field.  Junior attack Matt Kuppe (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) scored four goals and added an assist to lead Stevens.

Stevens (5-4, 3-0 KLC) scored three goals in the first 2:47.  The Ducks led 5-0 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 6-0 before Richard Stockton (4-3, 2-2 KLC) scored midway through the second quarter.  Kuppe and senior attack Mike Baumbach (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) scored two goals each in the opening quarter.

After falling behind 6-0, Stockton scored four of the next five goals to pull within three.  Sophomore Anthony Severino’s second goal of the game, with 11:37 left in the third quarter cut the Stevens lead to 7-4.  The Ospreys got no closer as the Ducks responded with five straight goals.  Stevens freshman Stephen Pascone (Selkirk, N.Y./Albany Academy) scored with 2:01 left in the third quarter to halt the Stockton momentum.

Junior midfielder Erik Reckdenwald (Glen Aubrey, N.Y./Whitney Point) scored twice in the fourth quarter as Stevens extended its lead to 12-4.  The Ducks held a 54-26 advantage in shots.  Junior goalkeeper Matt Cannon (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) stopped 10 shots for Stevens.  Sophomore defenseman Jim Mitchel (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) also limited Stockton attack James Kole, the conference’s leading scorer, to just one goal.

Stevens returns to action on Saturday, April 5, with a noon Knickerbocker game at Manhattanville.
