HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior forward Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) scored three goals as Stevens Institute of Technology cruised to a 7-0 win over St. Joseph’s-Patchogue on Wednesday night in a Skyline Conference women’s soccer game at DeBaun Field.
Stevens (4-4, 1-0 Skyline) scored two goals in the first three minutes to take control early. Freshman Heather Dinsmore (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) scored off a corner kick at the 1:51 mark as junior Rebecca Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) was credited with the assist. Junior Milia George (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) scored just 25 seconds later with sophomore Coralynn Jones (Stevensville, Mont./Stevensville) and Quinn assisting.
Barnhart, who now has nine goals in eight games, scored the next three Stevens goals. She scored in the 20th minute and 44th minute to give the Ducks a 4-0 lead at halftime. Barnhart struck again in the 52nd minute of an assist from junior Kim Mirra (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley).
Mirra added a goal on a lofted shot from 40 yards in the 64th minute and later assisted on Jaime Mehnert’s (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) goal in the 82nd minute.
Stevens held a 24-1 advantage in shots. Senior Rommy Guevara (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) and freshman Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) were untested while each playing a half in goal for Stevens. Lisa Paiva stopped eight shots for St. Joseph’s-Patchogue (4-4, 1-2 Skyline).
Stevens is back in action on Saturday, September 27, with a 1 p.m. non-conference game against Drew.
