Men's Basketball drops 70-51 decision to New Jersey City

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Senior forward Harold Williams had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and senior forward Samar Battle also scored 14 points as New Jersey City University earned a 70-51 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday in a non-conference men’s basketball game at the Canavan Arena.

New Jersey City (10-3) held leads of 9-0 and 18-2 as it never trailed in the game.  Battle connected on a 3-pointer on the opening possession and Williams followed with three straight baskets in the paint, giving the Gothic Knights a 9-0 lead at the 15:03 mark.

Stevens (1-11) junior Dan Jordan (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) scored the first basket of the second half, but New Jersey City scored the next 13 points by forcing seven Stevens turnovers.  The Gothic Knights held their largest lead, 53-22, following a layup by freshman Abraham Williams with 11:33 left in the second half.

New Jersey City held a 58-29 rebounding advantage and forced 29 turnovers.  Fourteen of the fifteen Gothic Knight players scored.

Stevens received 16 points from sophomore guard Jimmy Dominkewicz (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park).  Freshman forward Stephen Peters (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Storm King) had a season-high 11 points along with four rebounds and four steals.  Sophomore guard Ryan Kander (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Xaverian) fouled out with five points as his string of six consecutive games in double figures was stopped.

Stevens is back in action on Monday, January 12, when it hosts New York Maritime in an 8 p.m. Skyline Conference game.
