Women’s Soccer surges past FDU-Florham, 4-0

Senior Valerie Barnhart totaled two goals and an assist in Stevens 4-0 win over FDU.

HOBOKEN, N.J. - Senior forward Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) and sophomore forward Heather Dean (Renton, Wash./Charles Lindbergh) combined for three goals and three assists in the second half to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team past FDU-Florham, 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

It was the fifth consecutive shutout for Stevens, which improves to 10-0-1, while FDU falls to 6-4-1.

Dean got the Ducks on the board in the 68th minute of the game with a shot to the left side of the net past FDU goalie Melissa Braun.  Stevens added its second goal of the game when Barnhart and sophomore midfielder Siena York-Carr (Davis, Calif/Davis Senior) headed the ball to sophomore back Heather Dinsmore (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) who scored her second goal of the season on a header at 73:25.  Barnhart tallied her 11th and 12th goals of the season less than five minutes apart with Dean assisting to give the Ducks a 4-0 advantage.

Sophomore Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) had one save in the game for Stevens.  Braun had 11 saves for the Devils.

The Ducks return to action on Wednesday, October 13 when they travel to Farmingdale for their third Skyline match up of the season beginning at 4 p.m.
