Williams, Men's Basketball rebound with 68-50 win over Yeshiva

Junior guard Ryan Kander scored a season-high 12 points as Stevens won its Skyline Conference opener.

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore forward Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) scored 11 points and matched a career high with 10 rebounds to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 68-50 win over Yeshiva University on Monday night in a Skyline Conference men’s basketball game at the Canavan Arena.

Stevens (2-2, 1-0 Skyline) also received 12 points from junior guard Ryan Kander (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Xaverian) and 11 points and a game-high five assists from junior guard Jimmy Dominkewicz (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park).  Junior guard Benji Golbert led all scorers with 20 points for Yeshiva (0-3, 0-1 Skyline).

Stevens never trailed in the game.  Yeshiva pulled to within 26-25 on two free throws by sophomore forward Harel Vatavu with 5:20 left in the first half.  The Ducks outscored the Maccabees 14-4 over the final five minutes of the half to open up a 40-29 lead at the break.  Kander, who had five points during the decisive stretch, keyed the run with a jumper at the 5:02 mark.  His 3-pointer with 52 seconds left put the Ducks ahead 40-28.  Sophomore guard Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J./Peddie School) added four of his nine points during that stretch.

Stevens opened the second half with nine straight points in the first 1:38 to extend their lead to 49-29.  Yeshiva never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way.  Stevens held its largest lead, 59-37, with 7:02 left.

Nine different players scored for the Ducks who shot 51.1 percent (24-for-47) for the game.  Senior forward Dan Jordan (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Vatavu added eight points for Yeshiva while sophomore forward Roy Goldstein had seven points.  The Maccabees shot just 34.9 percent (15-for-43) from the floor and 48.1 percent (13-for-27) from the free-throw line.

Stevens is back in action on Wednesday, December 1, when it travels to Newark, N.J., for a 7 p.m. game at Rutgers-Newark.
