NEWARK, N.J. – Sophomore forward Jermont Horton and senior guard Manny Rios combined for 51 points as Rutgers-Newark pulled away from Stevens Institute of Technology for a 74-58 non-conference men's basketball victory at the Golden Dome Athletic Center.

Horton, who scored a game-high 27 points and pulled down eight rebounds, had 11 points during a decisive 25-7 run which turned a 42-40 lead into a 67-47 bulge with 5:04 left.  Horton began the spurt with a 3-point jumper at 14:38 and capped it with a layup.

Rios tallied 17 points of his 24 points in the first half as the Scarlet Raiders (3-1) forged a 37-30 lead.  He finished with a team-high 10 rebounds and four steals.

Sophomore center Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y./Selden) had a double-double for Stevens (2-3) with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  It was the second straight double-double for Williams who recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds in a 68-50 win over Yeshiva two days earlier.  The 10 rebounds matched a career-best for the third time.  Junior guard Jimmy Dominkewicz (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) led the Ducks with a season-high 20 points in 20 minutes off the bench.

Stevens is back in action on Saturday, September 4, when it travels to New York City for a 4 p.m. game against New York University.
