Enright, Gambino lead Women's Basketball past Rutgers-Newark, 55-47

NEWARK, N.J. – Freshman forward Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo./Longmont) scored 18 points, pulled down eight rebounds and had three steals as the Stevens women’s basketball team pulled away from Rutgers-Newark, 55-47, in a non-conference game at the Golden Dome Athletic Center.

Enright, who netted a dozen points in the second period, gave the Ducks (4-1) the lead for good with a layup with 14:09 left, making the score 34-32.  Senior guard Jaime Mehnert (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick), who finished with eight points and six rebounds, pushed the lead to 36-32 with a layup a minute later, and the Scarlet Raiders (3-2) never got closer than two points the rest of the way.

Junior forward Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Villa Academy) had 14 points for Stevens while freshman guard Jean Matusiak (Glendale, NY/Christ the King) contributed six steals, four assists and four rebounds.

Freshman forward Eni Fageyinbo, who led Rutgers-Newark with 15 points , nine rebounds and six steals, had the final two baskets in a 10-0 run that staked the Raiders to a 17-9 lead with 8:55 left in the opening half.

Stevens scored the final eight points of the first half for a 25-23 lead at the break.
The Ducks ultimately won at the foul line where they made 18 of 27 attempts to Rutgers-Newark’s eight of 20 performance.  Enright knocked down eight of 10 from the charity stripe.
Freshman guard Jean Matusiak (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) added six steals, four rebounds and four assists for the Ducks.

Stevens is back in action on Saturday, December 4, when it travels to Convent Station, N.J., for a 1 p.m. game against the College of St. Elizabeth.
