SALISBURY, Md. – Sophomore first baseman Nick Pegelow went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs to lead Salisbury University to a 10-4 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday in a non-conference baseball game at Sea Gull Stadium.
Salisbury (10-3) snapped a 4-4 tie with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Senior third baseman Trey Cobb, who reached on an error to open the fifth inning, came home on a balk to put the Sea Gulls in front. Pegelow added a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and junior third baseman David Sutton contributed a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning. Salisbury broke the game opening in the bottom of the eighth as Pegelow highlighted a three-run inning with a two-run double.
Stevens scored one run in the top of the first inning and three in the second to take a 4-2 lead. Freshman shortstop Adam Sandt (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) had an RBI groundout in the first inning while sophomore center fielder Tim Meehan (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) and freshman designated hitter Andy Tesoreiro (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) had run-scoring singles in the second inning.
Both teams had eight hits, by Salisbury was aided by 11 walks from Stevens pitching. Meehan, senior right fielder Adam Yoda (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) and sophomore left fielder Mike Carrano (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) led Stevens with two hits each.
Stevens and Salisbury will play another single game on Sunday at noon.
