Men's Volleyball captures ECAC Division III South Championship

MAHWAH, N.J. - The Stevens men's volleyball team earned 3-1 victories over Hunter (30-21, 32-30, 21-30, 30-20) and Ramapo (30-27, 30-27, 26-30, 30-21) to capture the ECAC Division III South Men's Volleyball Championship on Saturday at Ramapo College.

In capturing its first ECAC title in men's volleyball, Stevens wraps up its season with a 33-4 record.  The 33 wins are a school record, eclipsing last season's total of 27.  The Ducks were also a perfect 12-0 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Metro Division.

Senior setter Gerard Aro (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player as he recorded 55 assists and 11 digs in the final against Ramapo.  He also had 39 assists and seven digs in three games against Hunter.

Sophomore middle hitter Greg Higgins (Kenmore, N.Y./Kenmore West) had a strong semifinal match against Hunter as he finished with 17 kills, five digs and five blocks.  Junior outside hitter Brian Woodworth (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) contributed 13 kills and seven digs.  Freshmen middle hitters Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) added nine kills apiece.

Higgins again paced Stevens in the championship against Ramapo as he finished with 17 kills and four digs.  Sophomore outside hitter Chris Bock (Orlando, Fla./University) had just three kills in the semifinal match, but rebounded with 14 kills and a match-high 18 digs against Ramapo.  Foley (13), Woodworth (12) and Stoner (10) also finished in double digits in kills for Stevens.

Senior Kris Fraser led Ramapo with 24 kills and 11 digs.  Alex Lidhovidov added 16 kills and nine digs.
