HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior right-hander Kevin Suders (Mapleton Depot, Pa./Mount Union Area) pitched one-hit ball through eight innings and struck out 10 to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 2-1 win over Mount St. Mary College on Wednesday night in a Skyline Conference game at the Dobbelaar Baseball Field.

Stevens (13-9, 6-2 Skyline) snapped a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth when junior second baseman Jeff Drobik (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley) drove in junior left fielder Mike Carrano (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) with a two-out single up the middle.  Carrano had reached on a one-out single and stole second.

Stevens scored first as Drobik came home on a double steal with two out in the bottom of the third.

Mount St. Mary (7-10, 4-5 Skyline) pulled even in the top of the fifth.  Sophomore designated hitter Mike Way drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  He came home on a single to left field by junior catcher Vinny Critelli.  Critelli’s base hit was the only hit surrendered by Suders who worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth by retiring Jerry Puccio on a groundout to third.

Stevens freshman right-hander Adam Sandt (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) pitched a scoreless ninth, working around a two-out error for his second save.

Mount St. Mary squandered a strong pitching performance from sophomore left-hander Jim Pomeisl who struck out seven and scattered seven hits over eight innings.

Stevens is back in action on Thursday, April 8, when it travels to Staten Island for a 7 p.m. game against the College of Staten Island.
