POUGKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior forward Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) scored two first-half goals, her fifth and sixth of the season, to help keep the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team unbeaten with a 2-1 victory over Vassar College on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Stevens improves to 5-0. Vassar falls to 1-2.
Barnhart scored the Ducks’ first goal at 32:25 off a breakaway with freshman Sara Roeder (Portland, Ore./Sunset) assisting. Barnhart scored her second goal just over six minutes later when she stole an errant Vassar pass, cut around two defenders and popped in an unassisted goal.
Vassar got on the board at 70:00 when Sarah Combs lifted a high floater over the outstretched arms of Stevens goalie Erica Midttveit, who had only allowed one previous goal this season. Stevens outshot Vassar 25-7. Midttveit made two saves for the Ducks, both coming in the first half.
The Ducks will return to action on Wednesday, September 22 when they travel to St. Joseph’s-Patchogue for a 4:00 p.m. start.
