ITHACA, N.Y. - Sophomore back Nick Gkionis (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) scored off a corner kick in the 37th minute, but the 12th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie with Ithaca College on Sunday.

Stevens (1-0-1) dominated the first half, outshooting Ithaca (1-0-1) 19-7.  The Ducks took a 1-0 lead into halftime when Gkionis scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick from junior Chris Barsky (Holland, Pa./Council Rock) at the 36:17 mark.

Ithaca had just three shots in the second half, but managed to score the tying goal at the 55:57 mark when freshman forward Mark Jeffries scored unassisted for his first career goal.

Stevens, which held a 31-14 advantage in shots for the game, outshot Ithaca 6-4 in the two 10-minute overtime periods, but neither team was able to score.

Ithaca received a big effort from senior goalkeeper Ted Meyer, who stopped 16 shots to help Ithaca salvage a tie.  Stevens received five saves from sophomore goalkeeper Chris Celentano (Newton, N.J./Newton).

Stevens is back in action on Saturday, September 11, when it faces Moravian College at 3 p.m. in the Muhlenberg College Invitational.
