HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior forward Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Academy) and senior guard Jaime Mehnert (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) netted 12 points a piece to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team past Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference game at the Canavan Arena.

With the win, Stevens improves to 11-6 and 4-2 in the Skyline, while Old Westbury falls to 7-10 and 3-3 in the Skyline.

Leading by only three points, Mehnert fed a pass to Gambino under the basket to give the Ducks a 48-43 advantage with 25 seconds remaining in the game.  After being fouled with 10 seconds left, freshman guard Jackie Pannell (Bloomfield, Conn./Suffield Academy) sank two free throws to seal the 50-43 victory.

Stevens led the entire first half and held its biggest lead of the day, 14-6 at the 8:01 mark.  However, Old Westbury cut its lead to 22-19 heading into the break.

Freshman guard Kelsea Wilks (El Sobrante, Calif./Salesian) had a season-high six steals in the game along with seven points and five rebounds.

Stevens won despite shooting just 30.2 percent (19-for-63) from the floor.  The Ducks forced the Panthers into 31 turnovers and also took 30 more shots than their opponent.

The Ducks will return to action on Wednesday, February 2 when they travel to Maritime for a 7 p.m. game.
