STATEN ISLAND, NY (October 19, 2005) – The Stevens men’s swimming squad opened the 2005 season dropping a 108-89 decision at the College of Staten Island Wednesday night. Despite the loss, the Ducks had four swimmers qualify for the ECAC Championships, with three athletes qualifying in at least two events.
Sophomore Anthony Barrilli (Doylestown, PA) finished first in the 1000 free and second in the 500 and 100 butterfly and qualified for ECAC’s in all three events. Fellow sophomore Marc DeLese (Staten Island, NY) qualified for the ECAC’s in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Senior Andy Martz (Bloomingburg, NY) earned a first place finish in the 100 freestyle and a second place finish in the 200 freestyle, qualifying for ECAC in both events. Freshman Daniel Lichty (East Stroudsberg, PA) finished second in the 100 breaststroke and also qualified for ECAC’s in the event. The Stevens men’s program also won both relay events.
The Stevens women’s swim team opens up its 2005 season on Friday, Oct. 28 when they host Manhattan at 7 p.m.
