HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 30, 2005) – Junior Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 29 points on 13-for-20 shooting from the floor and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team collected its third straight win as the Ducks topped the College of Staten Island, 86-72, in non-conference action at Canavan Arena on Wednesday evening.  Sophomore Waleed Farid (Woodside, N.Y.) was 8-for-15 from the field and nailed four three-pointers for 21 points as Stevens improved to 3-1 on the year.
After battling to a near standstill over the first 10 minutes of the game, the Ducks used a 21-6 spurt in the span of 8:23 to turn a two-point lead into a 37-20 advantage.  Stevens went into the half leading 39-24 after holding the Dolphins (2-2) to 31.3 percent shooting from the floor in the opening period.
In the second half, Staten Island refused to go away as the Dolphins slowly chipped away at the Ducks’ lead.  CSI trimmed the deficit to single-digits (45-36) with 15:05 to play as junior Kelvin Luna (West Hempstead, N.Y.) converted a pair of free throws.  The Dolphins closed to within seven points of the Ducks on three separate occasions, but Stevens was able to hold on by scoring the final seven points of the game.  The Ducks’ final burst came right after senior Justin Martiniuk (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) scored on a layup with just over two minutes remaining.  Williams came up big for Stevens when it matters most as he scored four points and grabbed three offensive rebounds in the final 1:49 of the game.
Ducks’ freshman Virgil Gray (Elmwood Park, N.J.) continued his solid early-season play with 12 points.  Freshman Damien Palantino (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished 3-of-6 from behind the arc for nine points.  Senior Isaac Moore (Phoenix, Ariz.) added seven points, eight rebounds, and four assists.  Junior Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J.) contributed seven assists in the game.
Staten Island was led by Luna, who scored a team-high 28 points.  Luna connected on 10-of-15 free-throw attempts in the contest.  Senior Jeremy Smalls (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Martiniuk added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Stevens owned a 51-39 rebounding advantage over the Dolphins and shot 45.7 percent from the floor for the game.
