BROOKLYN, N.Y. (December 10, 2005) – Junior Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y.) tallied 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team to its fifth straight victory as the Ducks topped Brooklyn College, 82-70, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, N.Y. Williams finished the game 8-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-7 at the line as Stevens rallied from a 36-29 halftime deficit to improve to 5-1.
Midway through the second half, the Ducks received a big lift from freshman Damien Palantino (Philadelphia, Pa.), who came off the bench to drain four three-pointers. Palantino was 4-for-5 from downtown for 12 points in only nine minutes of playing time.
Leading by two points with less than three minutes to play in the game, Stevens used one final burst to finish off Brooklyn. Williams grabbed a couple of key offensive rebounds in the closing minutes, and sophomore Waleed Farid (Woodside, N.Y.) converted a crucial basket for the Ducks. Junior Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J.), who finished with five assists and four steals, connected on a pair of free throws in the final minute to help seal the victory.
Freshman Virgil Gray (Elmwood Park, N.J.) was 6-for-10 from the floor and made all five of his free-throw attempts for 17 points. Sophomore Joseph Ayodele (Tempe, Ariz.) added eight rebounds for the Ducks.
Stevens limited Brooklyn to 33.0 percent shooting in the second half. The Bridges only shot 37.5 percent from the floor for the game. The Ducks also out-rebounded the Bridges, 45-32.
Brooklyn, which falls to 4-5 on the year following its fifth straight loss, was led by senior Jeffrey Jean-Baptiste (Queens, N.Y.), who had a game-high 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the floor. Baptiste added five assists and four steals in the contest.
Stevens will be back in action on December 30 when the Ducks take on Rockford College at the Canyon Classic in Phoenix, Ariz.
