HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore forward Kevin Riley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) scored a season-high 10 points off the bench to rally Stevens Institute of Technology to a 55-52 win over St. Joseph’s-Patchogue on Thursday night in a Skyline Conference men’s basketball game at the Canavan Arena.

Stevens (12-12, 8-6 Skyline) rallied from a 10-point deficit with 8:55 remaining.  St. Joseph’s, which dropped a 70-68 decision to Kings Point on Wednesday, falls to 9-14 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

St. Joseph’s took a 44-34 lead on a conventional three-point play by junior forward Mike Massa with 8:55 remaining.  Stevens rallied by scoring 11 straight points over the next three minutes.  Riley, who scored eight of his 10 points in the second half, scored the first four points inside.  Junior guard Ryan Kander (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Xaverian) capped the run with a pair of free throws at the 5:58 mark, putting the Ducks on top 45-44.

The game was tied five times with four lead changes over the next four minutes.  Sophomore guard Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J./Peddie School) snapped a tie game when he sank a pair of free throws with 1:39 left to put Stevens ahead 52-50.  The Ducks scored their final five points from the free-throw line.

Clinging to a 54-52 lead, Stevens got the ball back when junior guard Isaac Moore (Phoenix, Ariz./Moon Valley) came up with a steal with 19 seconds left.  Kander made the second of two free throws to increase the lead to three with 15 seconds left.  The Ducks forced another turnover with 1.5 seconds to play, sealing the win.

Stevens struggled offensively, shooting just 28.3 percent from the floor (15-for-53), but the Ducks won the game at the free-throw line, making 22 of 29 attempts (75.9 percent).  St. Joseph’s was just 14-of-23 (60.9 percent) from the stripe.

Riley was the only Stevens player in double figures.  Morris added nine while sophomore Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) and freshman Waleed Farid (Woodside, N.Y./Stuyvesant) contributed eight points apiece.  Massa led the Golden Eagles with 10 points.

Stevens closes out its regular season on Saturday, Feb. 19, with a 3 p.m. Skyline Conference game at Centenary.
