Freshman John Dolny recorded a season-high nine points to lead Stevens past Eastern Connecticut.

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Freshman attack John Dolny (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) had four goals and five assists to power 12th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology to a 16-5 win over Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game at DeBaun Field.

Stevens (5-2) pulled away with a five-goal second quarter.  Eastern Connecticut (2-3) was limited to just two goals after the first quarter.

Eastern Connecticut trailed 3-1, but scored two goals in a span of 1:47 to tie the game.  Freshman midfielder Josh Cittadino scored with 5:50 left in the first quarter and senior attack Brian Hebron followed at the 4:03 mark to pull the Warriors even at 3-3.

Stevens scored 12 of the next 13 goals to pull away.  The Ducks reclaimed the lead, 4-3, when Dolny fed sophomore attack Joe Van Sickle (Hampton, N.J./Peddie School) for a goal with 50 seconds left in the first quarter.  Dolny, who scored three goals in the second quarter, followed with two goals in a span of 40 seconds to extend the lead to 6-3.

Eastern Connecticut got as close as 6-4 on a goal by sophomore attack Dave Carpenter with 7:46 remaining.  The Stevens defense clamped down and held the Warriors without another goal for nearly 30 minutes.  After Carpenter’s goal, the Ducks ran off nine straight goals to build a commanding lead.

Stevens held a 53-18 advantage in shots, including 29-5 in the second half.  Eastern Connecticut received 17 saves from junior goalie Will Holland.  Sophomore Jack Dunderdale (Ridgefield, Conn./Immaculate) and freshman Corey Vaillancourt (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) combined for six saves in net for Stevens.

Stevens also received three goals each from Van Sickle and sophomore midfielder Alex Richards (Beaverton, Ore./Century).  Sophomore attack Mark Bielicky (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) contributed two goals and two assists.

Five different players scored for Eastern Connecticut.  Carpenter finished with a goal and an assist.

Stevens opens Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference play on Saturday, April 2, when it travels to Purchase, N.Y., for a 1 p.m. game at Manhattanville College.
