No. 18 Men's Lacrosse rolls to 23-5 win over Alfred

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore attack Joe Van Sickle (Hampton, N.J./The Peddie School) had four goals and one assist and freshman attack John Dolny (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) added one goal and five assists to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 23-5 win over Alfred University on Saturday afternoon at DeBaun Field.

Stevens scored the first eight goals of the game and built a 14-2 lead at halftime.  Junior midfielder Jay Wells (Shaftsbury, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) scored a man-up goal just 46 seconds into the game to open the scoring for the Ducks.  Sophomores Patrick Bailey (Manassas, Va./Osborne Park) and Alex Richards (Beaverton, Ore/Century) scored 69 seconds apart and Van Sickle followed with consecutive goals in a span of 41 seconds as Stevens extended its lead to 5-0 with 7:29 left in the opening period.

The Ducks began substituting liberally with a 9-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Richards and sophomore attack Mark Bielicky (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored all three of their goals in the first half.  Wells, who also won 16 of 19 faceoffs, had two goals and one assist.

Thirteen different Stevens players scored with 10 different players recording assists.  Stevens (2-0) outshot Alfred (0-1) 49-22.

Stevens is back in action on Wednesday, March 9, when it travels to Cortland, N.Y., for a 3 p.m. game against Cortland State.
