HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore attack Mark Bielicky (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored six goals to lead eighth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology to a 21-7 win over Maritime College on Saturday in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game at DeBaun Field.
Stevens (9-2, 4-0 Knickerbocker) overcame a slow start to earn its sixth straight win. Maritime falls to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Maritime held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first quarter, but Stevens scored the next three goals to take the lead. Bielicky’s goal with 3:49 left in the first quarter tied the game at 2-2. Junior midfielders Jay Wells (Shaftsbury, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) and Rob Leming (Princeton Junction, N.J./Peddie School) scored at 12:34 and 10:58 in the second quarter to put the Ducks ahead 4-2.
Stevens outscored Maritime 9-3 in the second quarter to take an 11-5 lead at halftime. The Ducks scored three goals in a span of 24 seconds midway through the quarter. Bielicky scored off assists from Wells at 7:55 and 7:45 and freshman attack John Dolny (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) followed at 7:31 to increase the lead to 7-3.
Stevens scored the first eight goals of the second half to extend its lead to 19-5. For the game, the Ducks held a 61-24 advantage in shots and a 23-9 advantage in faceoffs.
Bielicky scored five of his six goals in the first half. Wells finished with three goals while sophomore attack Joe Van Sickle (Hampton, N.J./Peddie School), sophomore midfielder Patrick Bailey (Manassas, Va./Osborne Park) and junior midfielder Stephen Pascone (Selkirk, N.Y./Albany Academy) scored two goals apiece for Stevens.
Maritime received two goals each from Joey Coughlin and David Kozak. Tim O’Hara stopped 20 shots in goal for the Privateers.
Sophomore Jack Dunderdale (Ridgefield, Conn./Immaculate) and frehmen Corey Vaillancourt (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) and Pat Cavanaugh (Laurel, Md./Atholton) combined for 11 saves in net for Stevens.
Stevens is back in action on Wednesday, April 20, when it hosts Richard Stockton College in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game beginning at 7:00 p.m.
