Junior midfielder Jay Wells scored five goals, won 19 faceoffs and picked up 13 ground balls in the Ducks' 27-3 win over Richard Stockton.

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior midfielder Jay Wells (Shaftsbury, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) and sophomore attack Joe Van Sickle (Hampton, N.J./Peddie School) scored five goals apiece to power seventh-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology to a 27-3 win over Richard Stockton College afternoon in the semifinals of the Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference tournament on Wednesday afternoon at DeBaun Field.

Stevens (12-2), ranked seventh in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III coaches poll, received goals from 13 different players in earning its ninth straight win.  The 27 goals were a school record, breaking the mark of 24 set in 2001 against CCNY.  Richard Stockton falls to 8-5 with its last two losses coming against Stevens.

Stevens took control from the start.  Freshman midfielder Frank Sorrentino (Englewood Cliffs, N.J./Bergen Catholic) scored the first two goals of the game and sophomore attack Mark Bielicky (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored the first of his three goals with 5:40 left in the opening quarter to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead.

Stockton closed to within 3-1 on a goal by senior attack Anthony Severino with 3:34 left in the first, but Stevens scored the next 10 goals, extending its lead to 13-1.  Wells and Van Sickle scored three goals each during the run.  Stockton ended its drought when junior attack Josh Enyeart netted an extra-man goal with 45 second left in the second quarter.

Nine different players scored as Stevens scored the first 12 goals of the second half to pull away.

For the game, Stevens held a 75-20 advantage in shots with a 26-8 advantage in faceoffs won.  Wells continued to dominate his opponents, winning 19 of 21 faceoffs with 13 ground balls.  Sophomore goalie Jack Dunderdale (Ridgefield, Conn./Immaculate) stopped eight shots for the Ducks.  Bielicky finished with seven points on three goals and four assists.  Freshman attack John Dolny (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) contributed two goals and five assists.  With 40 assists on the season, Dolny is just one shy of the school record of 41 set by Hank Berry in 1966.  Bielicky’s 47 goals rank second in a single season.

Stockton senior Kyle Witty stopped 20 shots under heavy pressure while playing the first three quarters.

Stevens will face the winner of Wednesday night’s semifinal between Kings Point and Montclair State in the championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Hoboken, N.J.
