OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (January 28, 2005) – Senior Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, N.Y.), sophomore Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo.) and freshman Dani Dudek (Rockaway, N.J.) tallied 10 points apiece as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team defeated SUNY Old Westbury, 51-45, on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Ducks have now won their last six games and improve to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference while the Panthers fall to 10-7 (4-4 in the league).
Leading 43-30 with 3:28 to play in the game, Old Westbury cut the Ducks lead to 45-43 with 53 seconds remaining. Stevens converted six of eight free throws down the stretch to steal the conference win. The Ducks trailed 13-3 in the first half, but came back to tie the score 17-17 at the break.
Stevens shot 40 percent from the floor in the game and 55 percent (11-for-20) in the second half. Old Westbury shot 30.4 percent in the game.
Dudek contributed five steals in the game, and Enright pulled down 10 rebounds for the Ducks.
Stevens returns to action on Tuesday, January 31 when it hosts U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 7 p.m in a key Skyline Conference game. Kings Point currently occupies second place in the conference with a 5-1 record. The Ducks are right behind the Mariners in third place at 5-2.
