RADNOR, Pa. (October 16, 2006) – Sophomores Whitney Bender (Tijeras, N.M.) and Rebecca Ryba (Old Brookville, N.Y.) recorded an 8-4 win over senior Caitlin Scott (Medford, N.J.) and junior Amy Sarbaugh (Elizabethtown, Pa.), but it was not enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team dropped its second match in as many days with a 7-2 loss Cabrini College (12-4) on Monday in Radnor, Pa. After starting the season with seven straight wins, the Ducks now stand at 7-2 overall.
At No. 1 doubles, junior Dana Bacalla (Portland, Ore.) and senior Jin Bai (Edison, N.J.) suffered a tough 9-8 (7-3) loss to sophomore Dina DiTaranto (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and junior Carolyn Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa.). Freshman Tiffany Jow (Aberdeen, N.J.) and junior Jacqueline Carbone (Basking Ridge, N.J.) were defeated in third doubles by senior Jackie Creighton (Springfield, Pa.) and freshman Nicole Pontious (Philadelphia, Pa.), 8-3.
Stevens won by default at first singles as DiTaranto was unable to play against Bacalla due to illness. Cabrini has won the last three Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championships.
The Ducks are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Madison, N.J. to take on Drew University at 4:30 p.m.
