HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 26, 2006) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s swimming team defeated the College of Staten Island, 102-69, in its opening meet of the 2006-07 season on Thursday night at the DeBaun Aquatic Center. The Ducks avenged last year’s, 110-89, loss to the Dolphins and were led by the three-win performance of senior Vadim Gordon (Ocean Township, N.J.).
In the first event of the day, Gordon was part of the first-place 200-yard medley relay team. Gordon swam the backstroke in the event and finished in a time of 27.01. Gordon also placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.32 and the 100-yard backstroke (58.21).
Junior Mark DeLese (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned wins in back-to-back events for the Ducks. He finished with a time of 2:12.93 in the 200-yard IM and 1:09.90 in the 100-yard butterfly.
Freshman Brent Cox (Las Vegas, Nev.) earned two wins in his first collegiate meet. Cox earned top honors in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events with times of 5:26.78 and 10:59.53, respectively.
Freshman Steven Crouch (Huntsville, Ala.) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with an impressive time of 23.93. Crouch also swam a time of 1:07.2 in the 100-yard breaststroke to earn a first-place finish.
The Stevens swimming teams are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Hartwick, N.Y. to compete in the Hartwick Relays. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
