HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 1, 2006) – Freshman forward Todd Sheridan (Egg Harbor, N.J.) recorded four goals and an assist to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team past Farmingdale State University, 7-0, in the semifinals of the Skyline Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
Stevens (16-0-2), which earned its seventh straight win, will host the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 7 p.m. on Saturday night for the Skyline Conference championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. The Mariners earned a 3-0 victory over Centenary College earlier in the day.
Sheridan tallied his first hat trick of the season, scoring the Ducks’ first, third, sixth and seventh goals of the game. He extended his scoring streak to six straight games.
Sheridan started the scoring for Stevens in the 19th minute on a long breakaway pass from senior defender Brandon Schaefer (Albuquerque, N.M.). Senior defender Nick Gkionis (Jackson, N.J.) netted the Ducks’ second goal with less than four minutes before the break off a corner kick by junior midfielder Ryan Wilkison (Harrisburg, Pa.).
Stevens opened up the scoring in the second half scoring two goals in a span of 4:33. Sheridan picked up his second goal of the game off his own rebounded shot at the 53:15 mark. Junior forward Mike Kaiser (Roy, Utah) connected on his seventh goal of the year as Sheridan passed the ball to junior midfielder Craig Moquin (Breinigsville, Pa.) on the right side of the field. Moquin sent a cross to Kaiser on the left side to give the Ducks a 4-0 advantage.
Senior midfielder Chris McGreevy (Rochester, Mich.) added his ninth goal of the season on a quick pass from Gkionis. Sheridan scored his last two goals of the game unassisted to round out the scoring for Stevens.
The Ducks continued to dominate Skyline competition as they out-shot the Rams 43-3 in the game. Stevens also held a 13-2 advantage in corners.
Senior goalie Chris Celentano (Newton, N.J.) earned his 15th win and seventh shutout of the season with one save in the game.
