Enright Amasses 15 Points and 12 Rebounds as Women’s Basketball Moves to 6-0 on the Year

Dora Enright has six double-doubles in six games this season.

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (December 2, 2006) – Junior forward Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team improved to 6-0 on the year with a 63-42 victory over SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon.  Enright finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds as the Ducks moved to 1-0 in the Skyline Conference.

Stevens opened the game with a 10-0 run in the first four minutes.  Junior guard Jean Matusiak (Queens, N.Y.) got things going with a jumper.  Freshman forward Brittany Fuller (East Rockaway, N.Y.) followed with a basket.  After back-to-back buckets by Enright and junior guard/forward Kelsea Wilks (El Sobrante, Calif.), Matusiak knocked down her second jumper of the contest.

The Panthers (2-1, 0-1 Skyline) clawed their way back into the game with an 11-4 run.  Freshman forward Liila Mack (Monticello, N.Y.) drilled a three-pointer with 11:33 remaining in the period to bring Old Westbury within 14-11.  The Ducks answered right back with an 8-0 run in the span of 71 seconds to open a 22-11 lead with less than nine minutes to go.  Fuller jump-started things for Stevens with a three-pointer.  Following a three-point play by freshman guard/forward Sarah Gehring (Spokane, Wash.), sophomore guard Dani Dudek (Rockaway, N.J.) knocked down a pair of free throws to put the Ducks up by 11 points.  Stevens went into the locker room at halftime with a 32-19 cushion.

Leading by 12 points with just under 15 minutes remaining in the second half, the Ducks scored seven unanswered points that ultimately became part of a larger 19-4 run that put the game away.  First, Fuller hit a jumper.  Enright followed with a three-point play.  Wilks added a lay-up to put the Ducks up 45-26 with 13:09 to go.

Following a basket by Old Westbury senior guard Danna Purnell (Deer Park, N.Y.), Gehring made a free throw and Fuller drained a three-pointer.  Enright connected on a jumper for a 23-point lead (51-28).  After a pair of free throws by Enright and Fuller, freshman guard Lisa Iannotto (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drilled a jumper as the margin ballooned to 57-30 with 4:31 remaining in the game.

Fuller finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.  She shot four of eight from the floor and was 2-for-5 from downtown.  Matusiak had 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists.  Wilks collected eight points.  Gehring had six points on 2-for-3 shooting and added five rebounds.

Freshman guard Jazmin Bradley (Flushing, N.Y.) led the Panthers with 13 points.  She was 4-for-6 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range.  Purnell posted 12 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Stevens connected on 20 of 51 field goals (39.2 percent) in the game.  The Ducks were 21-for-30 (70.0 percent) at the foul line.  They made 13 of 15 free-throw attempts (86.7 percent) in the first half.  Old Westbury was 15 of 51 (29.4 percent) from the floor and 5-for-10 at the line.  The Panthers knocked down five of 10 attempts from downtown in the game.  Stevens held a 39-24 rebounding advantage and forced 20 turnovers by Old Westbury.

The Ducks will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Purchase, N.Y. to take on Manhattanville College at 7 p.m.
