MAHWAH, N.J. (December 6, 2006) – Four different players scored in double-figures as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team ran its record to 8-0 on the year with a 67-47 victory over Ramapo College on Wednesday evening in Mahwah, N.J.  The Ducks made 29 of 52 (55.8 percent) field-goal attempts in the contest and set a new single-game school record for field-goal percentage in the process.  The previous mark of 52.9 percent was set against Drew University during the 2002-03 season.

Stevens was led by junior forward Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo.), who posted 18 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the floor.  Enright failed to record a double-double for the first time this season though as she finished with four rebounds and three steals.  Freshman guard/forward Sarah Gehring (Spokane, Wash.) came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points.  Gehring was 7-for-12 from the field and two of five from downtown.

Meanwhile, freshman forward Brittany Fuller (Rockaway, N.Y.) collected 13 points.  She made five of 10 field-goal attempts and drilled three three-pointers in the game.  Sophomore guard Dani Dudek (Rockaway, N.J.) had 10 points and four assists.  Junior guard Jean Matusiak (Queens, N.Y.) posted eight rebounds, six points, six assists and four steals.  She was 3-for-4 from the floor.

Ramapo fell to 1-5 overall with the loss and has dropped five straight games.  The Roadrunners received 15 points from senior guard Kelly Bartz (Madison, N.J.), who made three three-pointers on the night.  Junior guard Natasha Gross (Glen Rock, N.J.) added nine points and two rebounds in the game.  Freshman forward/center Beth Weinmann (Pompton Plains, N.J.) posted 10 rebounds.

Trailing 13-12 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half, the Ducks scored nine unanswered points in the span of 83 seconds to take a 21-13 lead.  Enright started the run with a jumper.  Following a jumper by Dudek, Gehring canned a three-pointer.  Junior forward/center Rebecca Baldyga (Voorhees, N.J.) added a jumper to put the Ducks up by eight points with 11:42 to go in the period.

After Ramapo had closed to within 23-19 later in the half, Stevens rattled off a 13-0 run to take a 36-19 lead into the locker room.  Matusiak and Enright scored four points apiece in the burst.  Gehring added a jumper and Dudek had three free throws.  The Ducks shot 60.0 percent (15 of 25) from the floor in the first half.

Stevens blew the game open in the second half thanks to an 18-4 run that turned a seven-point game into a 21-point rout.  Leading 41-34 with less than 12 minutes to go, Enright made a basket and Dudek converted on a three-point play.  Gehring and Enright then combined to score the final 13 points of the spurt as the Ducks took a 59-38 lead with 6:48 remaining.

Stevens owned a slight rebounding edge (30-29) over Ramapo.  The Ducks collected 13 steals and forced 20 turnovers by the Roadrunners, who shot 37.3 percent (19-for-51) from the field in the game.

Coming up on Saturday, Stevens will play host to seven-time defending Skyline Conference champion Mount Saint Mary College.  Opening tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. from the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J.  Fans that are interested in watching that game can do so online as it will be carried as a live video webcast through www.duckcast.com.
