HUNTINGDON, Pa. (February 10, 2006) – Top-ranked Juniata College rallied after losing the first game to knock off the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team, 3-1, in a battle of Top-10 Division III teams on Friday evening in Huntingdon, Pa. The Eagles improved to 4-3 on the year with the 25-30, 30-18, 30-22, 30-25 victory. The seventh-ranked Ducks had their six-match losing streak come to an end as they fell to 10-7 overall.
Stevens was led by junior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.), who collected 12 kills and 11 digs. Stoner hit .321 (12-3-28) for the Ducks. Senior setter/outside hitter Chris Bock (Empangeri, Republic of South Africa) finished with 10 kills, six digs and two blocks. Freshman middle hitter Andrew Cranford (Bel Air, Md.) collected 10 kills. Junior setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) chipped in with 46 assists and seven digs.
Juniata received 19 kills and eight digs from sophomore outside/right side hitter Matt Fritz (Churchville, Md.), who hit .516 (19-3-31) in the match. Junior outside hitter Glenn DeHaven (South Huntington, N.Y.) added 11 kills and 10 digs. Junior middle/right side hitter Jeremy Barndt (Souderton, Pa.) tallied 13 kills and three blocks.
The Ducks’ match on Saturday against New Jersey City University has been postponed due to forecasted inclement weather. Stevens will be back in action on Monday, February 13 when the Ducks travel to Yeshiva University at 8 p.m.
