MAHWAH, N.J. (February 15, 2006) – Freshman middle hitter Andrew Cranford (Bel Air, Md.) tallied 16 kills, nine blocks and 20.5 points in leading the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team to a 27-30, 30-22, 30-22, 30-27 victory over No. 14 Ramapo College on Wednesday at the Bradley Center in Mahwah, N.J. Cranford hit .600 in the match with only one attack error in 25 attempts as the seventh-ranked Ducks won their second straight to improve to 12-7 on the year. Stevens also remained perfect (4-0) in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro Division with the win.
The Ducks received a solid performance out of freshman outside hitter/setter Joe Trinsey (Wilmington, Del.), who had 11 kills, six blocks and 16.0 points. Trinsey hit .474 with two attack errors in 19 total attempts. Junior middle hitter Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished with eight kills and eight blocks while hitting .375 (8-2-16). Junior setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) added 45 assists for the Ducks.
Ramapo, which had won three matches in a row heading into Wednesday’s match, was led by freshman middle hitter Shane Donohue (Freehold Township, N.J.). Donohue collected 16 kills and five digs for the Roadrunners. Sophomore outside hitter David Ross (Perth Amboy, N.J.) chipped in with 11 kills, seven digs and four assists as Ramapo fell to 10-2 (4-2 NECVA Metro) on the year.
Stevens will be back in action on Friday when the Ducks host No. 11 SUNY New Paltz at 7 p.m.
