Men’s Volleyball Sweeps No. 11 SUNY New Paltz

Scott Stoner had 10 kills and 11 digs as Stevens knocked off No. 11 SUNY New Paltz.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 17, 2006) – Sophomore outside hitter/libero Brian Carlson (West Seneca, N.Y.) tallied 12 kills, six digs and three blocks as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team collected its third win in a row with a 3-0 victory (31-29, 30-25, 30-23) over No. 11 SUNY New Paltz on Friday evening at Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J.  The seventh-ranked Ducks improved to 13-7 on the year and remained perfect in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro Division (5-0).

Junior outside/middle hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) hit a team-high .368 with 10 kills and only three attack errors in 19 total attempts.  Stoner added 11 digs and five blocks in the match.  Junior middle hitter Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) chipped in with seven kills and six blocks.  Freshman middle hitter Andrew Cranford (Bel Air, Md.) finished with seven kills and eight blocks.  Junior setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) had 34 assists.

New Paltz (10-4, 4-2), which had its three-match win streak come to an end with the loss to Stevens, was led by senior opposite hitter Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, N.Y.), who had 14 kills, seven digs and three blocks.  Freshman setter Matt Weingarten (East Moriches, N.Y.) tallied a team-high 36 assists to go along with six digs.

Stevens will be back in action on Wednesday, February 22 when the Ducks host Baruch College at 8 p.m.
