Win Streak Hits Six as Men’s Volleyball Tops SUNY New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (February 3, 2006) – Senior setter/outside hitter Chris Bock (Empangeri, Republic of South Africa) recorded a double-double (18 kills, 12 digs) while leading the seventh-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over No. 11 SUNY New Paltz on Friday evening at Elting Gymnasium in New Paltz, N.Y.  Bock added eight blocks in the match as the Ducks improved to 10-6 (2-0 North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro Division) on the year.

Stevens, which has now won six straight matches, dropped the first game then rallied to win the next three en route to the 25-30, 30-27, 30-12, 30-27 victory.  The Ducks received 10 kills, seven digs and three blocks from junior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.).  Junior middle hitter Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) added seven blocks against the Hawks.

Freshman middle hitter Andrew Cranford (Bel Air, Md.), who was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III National Player of the Week on Monday, finished with nine kills and eight blocks while hitting .316 (9-3-19).  Junior setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) chipped in with 44 assists, eight digs and four blocks.

New Paltz fell to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the NECVA as senior opposite hitter Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, N.Y.) collected 14 kills, six digs and three blocks.  Senior outside hitter Jamie Kellogg (Scio, N.Y.) tallied 10 digs and eight kills.

Stevens returns to action on Friday, February 10 when the Ducks take on top-ranked Juniata College at 7 p.m. in Huntingdon, Pa.
