HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 6, 2005) – Senior Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored 17 points, including the 1,000th of her career as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team earned its ninth straight win defeating Baruch College, 69-54, on Monday night. With the win, the Ducks improve to 14-6 and snap the Bearcats (16-6) nine-game win streak.
Leading by four with 7:49 remaining in the first half, the Ducks used an 11-5 run in a six-minute span to take a 25-12 lead with just under two minutes remaining. The Ducks held a 10-point advantage entering the break. Sophomore Kelsea Wilks (El Sobrante, Calif.) led the Ducks with 13 points in the half.
Stevens led by as many as 23 points in the second half. However, Baruch used a 13-2 run in a span of 2:14 to cut their lead to, 63-51. The Ducks out-scored the Bearcats 6-2 in the last minute of the game to earn the 69-54 win.
Four Stevens starters finished the game in double digits. Wilks finished the game with 17, while sophomore Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo.) chipped in with 16 points and a game and season-high 18 rebounds. Sophomore Jean Matusiak (Glendale, N.Y.) added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Ducks.
Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, February 8 when it hosts Manhattanville College at 7 p.m.
