Men’s Volleyball Captures Third Straight Match with a 3-1 Victory over Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (March 1, 2006) – Sophomore outside hitter/libero Brian Carlson (West Seneca, N.Y.) collected 13 kills and 14 digs as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team won its third straight match with a 30-18, 30-17, 27-30, 30-21 victory over Bard College on Wednesday at Stevenson Gymnasium in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.  Carlson hit .478 (13-2-23) as the Ducks improved to 17-8 overall and 8-0 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro Division.

Stevens, which has won 14 of 16 matches, also received a strong performance out of junior setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.), who registered a match-high 50 assists.  Junior outside/middle hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished with 13 kills and 15 digs.  Junior middle hitter Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had 11 kills and hit .438 (11-4-16) in the match.  Foley added nine blocks.  Senior outside hitter Greg Higgins (Kenmore, N.Y.) had 10 kills in his first extensive action since returning from a wrist injury last week.

Bard was led by junior setter Dylan Cummins (Aptos, Calif.), who had 41 assists.  Sophomore outside hitter Zachary Hamaker (Walnut Creek, Calif.) posted 20 kills and 12 digs for the Raptors (7-6, 4-4).

Stevens will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts the College of Mount Saint Vincent and Lees McRae College in a tri-match.  The Ducks will face Mount Saint Vincent at 11 a.m.  The Dolphins will then face Lees McRae at 1 p.m.  Stevens and Lees McRae will square off at 3 p.m.
