POMONA, N.J. (April 5, 2006) – Sophomore attack John Dolny (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) poured in five goals and tallied two assists in leading the 14th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team to a 19-4 victory over The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey on Wednesday evening in Pomona, N.J. Junior midfielder Joe Van Sickle (Amherst, N.H.) added four goals as the Ducks improved to 7-2 (5-0 Knickerbocker Conference) on the year with their fourth win in a row.
Stevens also received solid performances from junior midfielder Mark Bielicky (Bridgewater, N.J.) as well as sophomore attackmen J.R. Oreskovich (La Costa, Calif.) and R.J. Ancona (West Islip, N.Y.). Bielicky collected two goals and three assists for five points. Oreskovich contributed two goals and four assists. Ancona, who was 14-for-18 in faceoff opportunities, had two goals and an assist.
Midway through the first quarter, Oreskovich staked the Ducks to a 1-0 lead with a goal off an assist from senior midfielder Rich Benson (Rehoboth Beach, Del.). Just 86 seconds later, Dolny found Oreskovich for a man-up goal.
Richard Stockton responded a mere 16 seconds after Oreskovich’s goal as junior midfielder Mike Marino (Sewell, N.J.) netted his first score of the game to bring the Ospreys within 2-1. The Ducks came right back with an eight-goal outburst to take a 10-1 lead with less than two minutes to play in the half. Bielicky and Van Sickle scored two goals apiece as Stevens took complete control of the game.
Leading 10-2 at the break, the Ducks picked up a pair of early goals in the third quarter as Dolny and Ancona scored in the span of seven seconds to extend the margin to 10 goals. Following goals by Marino and junior midfielder Charles Doud (Sewell, N.J.), Stevens scored seven straight times over the final 20 minutes of the game. Van Sickle and Dolny contributed two goals each late in the contest. The Ducks also received fourth-quarter goals from freshman attack Eric Smith (Oswego, N.Y.) and junior attack Patrick Bailey (Manassas, Va.).
Junior goalkeeper Jack Dunderdale (Ridgefield, Conn.) picked up his sixth win of the season as he made nine saves in 55 minutes of action.
Marino led Richard Stockton with two goals. He also had three ground balls and won five faceoffs. Freshman midfielder Ian Muchanic (Kendall Park, N.J.) posted a team-high four ground balls.
Stevens dominated the game in nearly every statistical category. The Ducks out-shot the Ospreys 47-27 and owned a 38-16 advantage in ground balls. Stevens, which scored a pair of man-up goals in the match, won 20 of 25 faceoffs.
The Ducks will be back in action on Saturday when they host Farmingdale State University at 7 p.m.
