No. 7 Men’s Soccer Rolls Past FDU, 7-1

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 16, 2006)The seventh-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team improved to 5-0-1 as they defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University, 7-1, on Saturday evening at DeBaun Field.  Freshman forward Terrance Johnson (Slidell, La.) led the Ducks with two goals and an assist in the game.  He now leads the team with 14 points (six goals, two assists).

Stevens got on the board within the first 30 seconds of the game when junior midfielder Craig Moquin (Breinigsville, Pa.) sent a shot from the right side of the field to junior forward Mike Kaiser (Roy, Utah).  Kaiser headed in his first goal of the season to put the Ducks ahead 1-0.

Just under five minutes later, Moquin sent a free kick into senior midfielder Chris McGreevy (Rochester, Mich.) on the left side.  Johnson headed in his fifth goal of the season off McGreevy’s rebounded shot to give Stevens a 2-0 advantage.

With 37:45 on the clock in the second half, Moquin registered his first goal of the season.  Kaiser sent in a pass from the left side and Moquin curled the ball over junior goaltender Jared Drucker (Morristown, N.J.) to give Stevens a 3-0 edge.

Freshman midfielder Al Lockhart (Decatur, Ga.) gave the Ducks a four-goal cushion in the 31st minute when Drucker came out of the net and misplayed the ball to Lockhart.  Lockhart chipped it over the goalie’s head and into the cage for his first goal of the season.

Sophomore midfielder Daniel Cardagna (Sayreville, N.J.) dribbled across the Ducks defense and sent in a shot from the left side to net the lone goal for the Devils with 27:53 remaining in the game.

Sophomore forward Jeremy Lippel (West Orange, N.J.) scored on a breakaway pass from Johnson to total his first goal of the season.  Johnson headed in his second goal of the day on a pass from Lockhart to increase the Ducks lead to 6-1.

Freshman forward Todd Sheridan (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) netted his first collegiate goal with 14 minutes remaining in the game on a long pass from junior defender Chris Greenfield (Scottsdale, Ariz.).

Stevens junior goalie Corey Connelly (Louisville, Ky.), who replaced senior Chris Celentano (Newton, N.J.) registered two saves in the game for the Ducks.  Drucker totaled five and freshman Steve O’Neill (Hopewell, N.J.) had four saves in the game for FDU.

Stevens controlled possession for the better part of the contest, holding a 33-5 edge in shots and a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Stevens will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Farmingdale State University in its first conference game of the season at 4 p.m.
